Laser Technology at North Shore

In the United States, the use of lasers on the gums was first approved by the Food and Drug Administration in the early 1990s, and use on hard tissue like teeth or the bone of the mandible gained approval in 1996.
Several variants of dental laser are in use, with the most common being diode lasers, carbon dioxide lasers, and yttrium aluminium garnet laser. Different lasers use different wavelengths and these mean they are better suited for different applications. For example, diode lasers in the 810–900 nm range are well absorbed by red coloured tissues such as the gingivae increasingly being used in place of electrosurgery and standard surgery for soft tissue applications such as tissue contouring and gingivectomy. North Shore Dental ensure your safety by using the latest in laser Technology approved by the FDA

Cerec 3D Cad Cam

CEREC by Sirona Dental Systems is the world’s only system for the fabrication of all ceramic dental restorations in one office visit. With CEREC at your dentist’s side, you can be in and out in a single visit with a permanent, all ceramic crown, onlay, or veneer! For you, the patient, this means fewer injections, less drilling, and less time out of your hectic schedule for dental care. So, why are thousands of people world wide choosing the CEREC restorative technique for their dental needs?
Features:
CEREC 3
The CEREC 3 acquisition unit incorporates a mobile PC that has been specially designed and approved for medical applications. The PC is equipped with a flat panel monitor, a high-precision 3-D measuring camera, and a microprocessor-controlled image capture card. The card processes the images from the 3-D measuring camera in real time.
Software
CEREC 3D Software is Windows – based and 3-dimensional. With “what you see is what you get” realism, you have the control and vision you’ve never had with any other restorative method. CEREC 3D software allows you to see the preparation and restoration from all angles. You can remove mesial and distal neighbors to ensure that proximal contacts are precisely correct.
Milling Unit
The milling unit is capable of producing single-unit restorations. The acquisition unit may be used for other tasks during the milling process. The milling unit communicates with the acquisition unit via cable or radio signals. Using radio communication allows the milling unit to be installed in a wide variety of locations: in the treatment room for easy access, in a corner or niche to save space, or in the waiting area as a fascinating eye-catcher.
The diamond burrs in the milling unit are designed for the shortest possible milling times. The conical burr allows creation of highly detailed occlusal surfaces. Performed symmetrically, the milling process ensures that the ceramic materials are machined with utmost care and precision.

Cerec 3D at North Shore

The CEREC procedure is simple from the word go. You show the patient the defect, prepare the tooth and then create an optical impression in just a few seconds. The easy-to-use CEREC 3D camera always displays the tooth in constant magnification, regardless of the distance between the preparation site and the lens. The extensive depth of field goes hand in hand with razor-sharp image quality. It’s even possible to acquire difficult inlay preparations in three dimensions with just a single exposure. To acquire bridge preparations and/or the adjacent teeth, you can overlay and juxtapose several images with just one click of the mouse. Even virtually inaccessible areas can be precisely acquired. The three-dimensional optical impression of the preparation and the antagonists provides a dependable basis for designing the restoration.
Mouth Guards

As North Shore Dentists, Dr. Plotka and Dr. Ghoneim are focused on prevention and being proactive. One of the areas of concern is injury prevention.
The National Youth Sports Safety Foundation estimates that children and adolescents lose more than 5 million teeth per year.
It is recommended that individuals who participate in athletics or who are recreationally active have a properly fitted mouthguard fabricated by a dentist. Custom made athletic mouthguards best aid in preventing tooth injury or loss. Over the counter guards are typically found to have inadequate thickness, unsatisfactory coverage for the teeth and thus do not provide the most ideal protection.
If you or a member of your family is active and participates in athletics we recommend that you consult with a dentist to ensure that one has suitable protection for their mouth.
